As the weather cools and the days get shorter, sweaters become a much bigger part of our wardrobe. But as we pull our sweaters out of storage, it's important to properly care for them in order to make them last! Here are some tips to keep your sweaters looking new longer:
Fold, don't hang.
Don't over wash your sweaters.
Hand wash and dry flat if you wash them at home.
Not sure how to properly hand wash your sweater? Here's a step-by-step guide:
Turn the garment inside out to wash.
Prepare your clean basin or sink with cold water and a specialty soap/shampoo made for your sweaters fabric. (The Laundress Wool and Cashmere Shampoo is great stuff)
Submerge your garment and gently wash with your hands.
Thoroughly rinse the garment in clean water. Be sure that all the soap has been rinsed out and press out excess water. DO NOT twist or wring it out!
To dry, place the garment on top of a towel, making sure it is flat and in its original shape.
Roll up the towel with the garment inside to remove excess water.
To finish drying, place the garment on a dry towel or drying rack.
